Operation Fire Trail is a targeted enforcement drive launched by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) to curb the smuggling of restricted Chinese firecrackers into India. The operation aims to detect illegal consignments, particularly those misusing SEZ routes for unauthorized entry into the domestic market. These fireworks often violate India’s Explosives Rules, 2008, and pose serious safety, environmental, and public health risks.

As India’s apex anti-smuggling agency under the CBIC, the DRI is enforcing strict compliance with the Foreign Trade Policy to prevent illegal trade practices, especially in the lead-up to festival seasons. The operation underscores the growing focus on regulating hazardous imports while safeguarding national security and environmental norms.
