Jharkhand has become the first state in India to launch a mining tourism project, following a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). This initiative aims to highlight the state’s mineral heritage while boosting tourism and creating local employment opportunities.

The project was inspired by the Chief Minister’s visit to the Gava Museum of Mines in Barcelona, which led to the vision of transforming mining sites into educational and safe tourist destinations. Given that Jharkhand holds nearly 40% of India’s mineral wealth, the initiative is expected to provide students, researchers, and tourists a unique learning experience about mining technologies, environmental safeguards, and the state’s economic history.
