Purpose: To regulate the stay, movement, and activities of foreigners in India.
Major Provisions:
Overstaying Visa / Invalid Documents:
Staying beyond visa validity.
Staying without a valid passport or travel document.
Violating visa conditions.
Trespassing in Restricted Areas:
Entering areas prohibited without permission.
Punishment:
Imprisonment up to three years, or
Fine up to ₹3 lakh, or
Both.
Other Contraventions:
Violation of any provision of the Act (except Sections 17 and 19) or related rules/orders/instructions.
Similar punishment: up to three years’ imprisonment, fine up to ₹3 lakh, or both.
