The Chongpreng, a traditional three-stringed bamboo musical instrument of Tripura, was highlighted by Narendra Modi for its rich cultural significance and ongoing revival. The Prime Minister praised musician Suraj Kumar Debbarma for promoting the instrument and preserving indigenous musical traditions through performances and folk music.
The Chongpreng produces a melodious sound resembling the Sarod and is closely associated with the Kokborok cultural heritage. Revival efforts aim to preserve the instrument, encourage youth participation, and safeguard the traditional musical legacy of Tripura.
