The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region received a major push in the Union Budget 2026–27 with an allocation of ₹6,812.30 crore—an increase of over 52% from the Revised Estimate of ₹4,479.20 crore in 2025–26.

The sharp hike reflects the Centre’s continued focus on accelerating development in the Northeast through targeted funding and project support.

However, within the overall increase, allocations to the North Eastern Council have been reduced to ₹825 crore, down from ₹1,000 crore in the previous RE, indicating a shift in how resources will be channelled within the region.

For aspirants, the contrast highlights evolving budget priorities—higher overall spending for the Northeast alongside institutional restructuring.
