Urban Governance & Transport Management
The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has introduced the Cobra Beat system to address micro-level causes of traffic congestion across the city. Under this initiative, specially trained Cobra personnel—the first responders of BTP—are assigned two routes each to patrol during peak hours and identify on-ground issues disrupting traffic flow.
The system focuses on localised problem-solving rather than large-scale infrastructural interventions. As part of this approach, the BTP has relocated 103 unscientifically placed bus stops and implemented signal synchronisation to enable smoother vehicular movement.
