The Assam Government on Tuesday introduced the Assam State Commission for Safai Karamcharis Bill, 2023. The Bill was placed in the House by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Pijush Hazarika.
The Assam State Commission for Safai Karamcharis Bill, 2023 proposes to create a separate State Commission for Safai Karamcharis to safeguard the rights and interests and for redressal of the grievances of the Safai Karamcharis in the State. The Bill proposes to protect the dehumanizing practice of manual scavengers, to monitor the implementation of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013, to take suo moto notice of matter relating to non-implementation of this Act, and to advise the State Government for effective implementation of the provisions of this Act.
