Assam is exploring the development of a high-speed regional rail network modelled on the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Preliminary discussions have reportedly begun with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to prepare a blueprint for a possible regional rapid transit system connecting key growth areas of the state.
The proposed network, if implemented, could improve connectivity between Assam’s major economic and urban centres, facilitating mobility and regional development. The Delhi–Meerut RRTS provides faster connections between Delhi and major urban centres in the National Capital Region.
