The Vishwakarma Samman celebrates artisans excelling in traditional crafts and technical skills, aiming to preserve and promote Assam’s rich cultural heritage by recognizing their contributions.

Some famous artisan villages in Assam:

Hajo is well-known for its brass and bell metal crafts. Artisans in the village create beautiful and intricate items such as utensils, religious artifacts, and decorative pieces, maintaining a centuries-old tradition.

Raha is known for its pottery, which is an important craft passed down through generations. The pottery items produced here are not only used locally but also have a growing demand in other parts of Assam.

Asharikandi is recognized for its terracotta and pottery work. The village has earned fame for its unique style of terracotta figures, especially the Bankura-style dolls, and is a hub for ethnic pottery in Assam.
