According to the North Eastern Council (NEC) Yearbook 2026, the projected sex ratio for the northeastern states, excluding Assam, is 972 females per 1,000 males. Assam’s projected sex ratio stands at 968 females per 1,000 males for 2026.
Both figures are higher than the projected national average of 948 females per 1,000 males. The yearbook was prepared by the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi) on behalf of the NEC under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
