Samudra Pratap is a specialised Pollution Control Vessel (PCV) inducted into the Indian Coast Guard to protect marine ecosystems, respond to oil spills, and assist in firefighting at sea. It represents India’s growing ability to manage maritime environmental emergencies.

The ship is the largest vessel in the Coast Guard fleet and the first PCV indigenously designed and built in India, marking a major step in self-reliance. It has advanced oil-spill skimmers, containment booms, monitoring systems, and equipment to handle hazardous maritime accidents.

The vessel was constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited under a dedicated two-ship PCV project.
