The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has a maximum strength of 46 members. Of these, 40 members are directly elected through adult suffrage, forming the elected component of the council.
The remaining 6 members are nominated by the Governor of Assam to provide representation to communities that may remain unrepresented through elections. Importantly, at least two of the nominated members must be women, ensuring mandatory female representation in the council.
