Virat Kohli became the fastest cricketer to score 28,000 international runs across all formats during the first ODI against New Zealand.

He reached the landmark in fewer innings than any other player, highlighting his sustained consistency in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

Only Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara had earlier crossed the 28,000-run mark. Tendulkar achieved it in his 644th innings, while Sangakkara reached it in his 666th.

Kohli is now the second-highest run-scorer in international cricket, behind Sachin Tendulkar.
