Legendary sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar (1925–2025), who passed away recently, will be conferred with the First Borderless Babasaheb International Award posthumously, recognising his unparalleled contribution to public art and national symbolism.
Popularly known as the “Statue Man of India”, Sutar designed over 50 monumental public sculptures during a career spanning nearly seven decades. His most iconic creation is the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
His works are distinguished by hyper-realistic bronze and stone portraits, marked by technical precision, dynamism, and a deep sense of historical presence, shaping India’s visual narrative of its national icons.
