For the first time since Partition, two universities in Pakistan’s Punjab have introduced short-term courses in Sanskrit, acknowledging shared cultural and civilisational heritage. The University of Punjab, Lahore (public) and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (private) have launched a three-month Sanskrit course.

The institutions have also indicated plans to introduce studies on classical texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Mahabharata in the future, marking a rare academic outreach toward Indic classical knowledge across borders.

APSC relevance: Important for cultural diplomacy, soft power, shared heritage of South Asia, and revival of classical languages.
